St. Charles Waterfowl Observatory

Even long time residents of St. Charles are surprised to discover what they have right inside their community.  The St. Charles Waterfowl Observatory is a resource few have taken the time to enjoy.  The environment was constructed to provide an exhibit for the young and old alike.

We try to keep a natural habitat for the feathered residents, including Penelope, a sandhill crane with a broken beak that would not be able to survive on her own.  Penelope was donated along with many of her feathered friends by the late Ken Kalenak.  Given the chance, Penelope will perform for you.  She likes to dance for her audience.  But please remember nobody likes their space invaded, so be sure to give her the room she needs.
